Cal Fussman’s Message To The World

Cal Fussman is a journalist with Esquire magazine and a top-notch interviewer who has talked with many people in all walks of life from Mikhail Gorbachev to Muhammad Ali. He honed his craft during the ten years he spent travelling the world and spending time in the homes of the locals to hear their stories. When Tim Ferriss asked Mr. Fussman what message he would put on a billboard and where he would put it, he answered:

“One word: Listen. I don’t know what reaction that would get, but I would like to see the reaction on people’s faces when they saw that. …listening is an art form and a lot of great things could be achieved through listening.”

Our ability to listen and share experiences with each other is what brings us together and builds stronger relationships. As Mr. Fussman said, listening well is an artform that must be honed in order to get the most benefit out of it. Cultivating the skills to listen and be able to ask the right questions allows us to better share and feel gratitude for the relationships we have and for the prospective new ones we have yet to form.
