Casey Neistat’s Message To The World

Casey Neistat is a New York-based filmmaker who’s online films have been viewed close to 2 BILLION times in the last 8 years.  He was asked this past week what message he would put on a billboard.  Read his response below.

“I’d love to have a billboard, something that just reminds people to be nice.

Where I would put it is where the most people would possibly see it. But I think that we, I don’t know if communication uh.  Actually, I do. Communication, social networks, and the internet has made this better, it’s going in the right direction.  And I think people are so quick to be judgmental and negative and the truth is if you give other people the benefit of the doubt and you have a positive approach to everything in life that you end up being happier and it’s better for them.

It’s like that absolutely quantifiable mathematical equation which is that, if what’s best for you and me is better for me than just what’s better for me.

Does that make sense?  I’ll say it again.  Something that benefits Tim and Casey is better for Casey than something that just benefits Casey.  And I think positivity and being nice is a big part of that.  It’s something that is often overlooked.”

This quote was taken from, “The Tim Ferriss Show” podcast.  I listened to it the other day and after hearing this section above I felt compelled to share it.  I recommend that you check out the whole interview here:  The Tim Ferriss Show.  Casey is a straight-shooter who’s work ethic is as intense as training to be a Navy Seal.  Having said that he comes off very laid back and insightful.  I feel that I’m really not doing Casey or the interview justice.  So again I recommend that you check it out.

Casey, GratitudeSpace.com is no billboard in NYC, it’s more of a park bench in rural Kentucky.  But to quote you, “it’s not the camera that matters.”  Thanks again for sharing your life and ideas about life with me.  Sincerely, Chris

Read what others are saying about Casey:

Harry Rama:  I won’t forget this man’s name after what he did to my countrymen 2 years ago – asking 20th Century Fox to let him spend their $25K budget for a film ad to be donated to Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) victims instead and personally delivered by him. What a great guy. Thanks for guesting Casey, Tim. As for what he did, please watch

Patrick: So thanks for that episode, and this one with Casey. I looked his videos up and ended up watching a ton of them. They are like crack!

Jsnoshima: Excellent episode! There were several times when it started to get emotional there, tugging at the heart strings a bit. Referring to his grandmother passing away and also when he mentioned Malcolm X. Casey, you’re a good man, brother.

B.H.: I agree with Casey’s philosophy. “Don’t listen to anyone but yourself.”

Long Pan: Awesome episode! Casey has always been an inspiration. I don’t want to sound too flattering:)

Curtis: Casey’s answer to the most successful person he could think of was my absolute favorite. His grandmother had a life well-lived!

Danielott: Nice one Tim, absolutely love Casey after I stumbled across him just as he began doing his daily vlog. Been watching him ever since and the man is a breath of fresh air and an inspiration.

Regina: I’m one of those people who had no idea who Casey was, and am unfamiliar with the whole world of vlogging as well as his accomplishments. That’s why I listen to your podcasts, Tim, to find out about worlds outside of my own. This was one of my favorites, up there with Wim Hof and Scott Adams. Casey has an incredible amount of energy and wisdom…and yes, he is very articulate. Also, I admire how true he is to himself and how he won’t sell out, just for money. I can’t thank you enough for these podcasts. They broaden my knowledge base, provide inspiration, and open up new worlds.

James: I LOVE CASEY! Such an inspiring guy.

Kevin Brennan: Casey’s comment about gifting books really resonated: I always feel someone kind of ego-imposition in giving a book that’s been really meaningful to me, since our choices in reading are so personally guided and curated. I won’t stop trying to choose books to give, but it’s never felt easy.

Samapoc: Casey Neistat is really great, really real, really endearing.
