Grati-Questions

What does being grateful mean to you?  

Grateful means that I receive by grace the gift of life and to live it to the fullest. It is not by my own but I owe all the honor and glory to God.  Everything that has been given to me is only by God’s grace and I am extremely grateful and blessed. 

Right now, in this moment, what are 3 things you are grateful for?  

God and his love.  My husband and family.  Kino Macgregor and our friendship.

How is gratitude part of your yoga practice? 

Every breath I am thankful to be alive.  Every time I sit on my mat, I am grateful that I can touch my toes even when I am in pain.  Just being able to live this life and have a daily practice is a blessing and I am grateful for every moment of it.  Without gratitude, it is just self-inflated ego.

Could you tell us about a struggle in the past year that you are now grateful for?

I have had many struggles, both physical, emotional and in business this year.  I think what I have learned most about the struggle is that there is no struggle in surrender.  Once you surrender, you will experience peace, that surpasses all understanding.  It is only through the fight for control that we feel fear, anxiety, pain, defeat, worthlessness… in surrender, there is only love and peace.

You release such beautiful images with wonderful thought provoking words to over a million people everyday.  Who is a role model of yours, and why?

I don’t really have a role model other than my spiritual leaders and mentors that have helped me along the way.  I would say that the message and life of Jesus by far influences most of my posts because of his unwavering love for humanity in the midst of such persecution. I aspire to love people the way he did.

Tell me about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your life so far.

My business projects are all quite secret at the moment otherwise I would mention them. 🙂  However, the most significant accomplishment by far in my life is my restored marriage with my husband, Nick.  We went through a very dark time where I felt as if I’d never be okay and we would never be able to fix the damage that was done. To be able to see the miracle transformation of that relationship gives me hope that nothing is impossible if you surrender to the power of God.

In closing, what is one suggestion you have to our audience that can help incorporate gratitude into their daily lives?

I’m not kidding when I say that it is a battle EVERY DAY for me to get on my mat. I am a mom and I work. I have 1,000 things that I could put in front of my yoga practice but … I don’t. I simply don’t. I believe that 90% of the struggle is just allowing yourself permission. When people ask me what I do to motivate myself my answer is always this: don’t make it a choice. Treat physical discipline like a job that you have to go to everyday. Whether you practice yoga, run or some other form of exercise, make the time… Put in the work. I don’t know about you but this time of year stresses me out and I can’t wait for it to be over before it even begins. The holiday music in the stores and on the radio makes me nuts… Not to mention the frantic energy of people everywhere shopping (ALREADY) trying to “get a deal” on that one-of-kind reindeer sweater that no one is going to wear! I guess I’m a Scrooge but really, does your family and friends really “need” anything? Why isn’t time spent together enough? Why do I feel like I am sucked into buying gifts in order to show my loved ones how much they mean to me? How about we take all the money we would normally spend on each other and actually feed a starving children? 💡 Anyone else feel like me? For the longest time growing up I felt ugly. I remember thinking to myself that I was the ugliest person alive. I looked in the mirror and hated what I saw. I didn’t like my hair, my skin, my body or anything about me really. I was painfully shy and very introverted. I believed I was a failure before I even tried anything. At some point however, I began to question everything. Why I was put here? What is the meaning of my life? I began to push in a seek answers. What I found was that everything up to that point I believed was a total lie. It was either spoken over me by someone else or myself …. all lies. I began to understand that beauty is on the inside not on the outside. What I look like has nothing to do with my worth. Slowly, as I chipped away at each lie, I uncovered the truth about who I was and …. It was beautiful. Seek the truth. It’s beautiful. 🌟

Sometimes in life you have to just tell yourself, whether you believe it or not, that you ARE a star. You ARE good enough. You have what it takes to live life to the fullest… To go for your dreams… To reach for the stars🌟. The words we speak to ourselves has profound impact on our lives. Out of the HEART the mouth shall speak. What is the condition of your heart? What words describe you? How you REALLY feel about yourself will reflect in your “self talk”. Have you ever had a friend that just won’t take a compliment? You say “you look nice” and they respond with “I look terrible today!” Or, maybe you are the one who can’t take compliments? If your response is anything other than “thank you” after a compliment, you might be in need of a new heart. Do you say “I can’t ….” Or “I’m not good at….”? If you surrender the heart and change the way you speak about yourself, you will notice that soon you will be achieving your wildest dreams. It’s okay to say thank you even if you don’t feel it inside. Celebrate your success and focus on ALL that is good. You were meant to live a life of JOY …. #flashbackfriday Last May … epic shot of students at sunrise. Most people don’t realize that I teach classes at my local beach 3 times a week. Some of my students (actually they are friends) have been with me for over 6 years since I moved to Florida. They are so loyal and follow me where ever I go. (You know who you are and I ❤️ you) I have been at the beach now for 4 years and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Practicing yoga while being in the elements is something that you just can’t explain. It’s is harder? Yes. But it’s also easier with certain postures. The sand allows you to modify anything because it hugs the body and can form around your bones so a posture like pigeon pose is more comfortable. But really, that’s not why anyone is there. I believe they come to let go of their baggage, breathe in the salt air and experience what it is like to “feel” the yoga practice. #justpractice Let’s just be clear …. THIS is a miracle. I have never considered myself a flexible. I have always leaned towards strength and to be honest, I really don’t love deep backbends because they aren’t “easy” for me. I was told at the age of 23 that I had two herniated discs in my low back and needed surgery. I was also given the diagnosis of fibromyalgia. I scored a 9 out of a possible 10 on the test for over active nerve endings. (Which yoga has only helped me.) I believed everything anyone told me and I made up my mind that “I’m not flexible”. Until …. a few years ago I said “I’m just going to practice and see what happens”. Well, what happens is you get stronger and more flexible and you stop listening to others. YOU create your reality. JUST PRACTICE … Let go of the result. Show up on your mat every day and just do your best. #changewillcome On a side note… My dog is really so supportive🐶 with a kiss and a high✋🏻five!   1. For my Creative Writing class we have to write a short story, I really want to write some thing along the lines of Columbine, but I’m worried about the reaction of my teacher. As far as I know, he has no personal history with the idea, but … I don’t know. What would you want to see out of a short story for a creative writing class?.
    I recommend you talk to your teacher before or after class. Let him know what your plans are and whether or not the topic and they way you want to handle in will be appropriate in your school environment. As a teacher and creative writer, I would want to see you explore topics of interest to you and how to express them in a specific format. For a short story, 

  2.  I’d want to see you create and develop dynamic characters, describe your setting so that I feel as if it’s real, and tell a compelling and meaningful story, whether it’s action-oriented or more character-growth focused.
    That said, I’d still recommend finding out from your teacher directly what he is looking for in this assignment. Good luck!
