Lessons forMy Daughters

with Carmin Caterina

Interview by Chris Palmore

Carmin Caterina is the founder of Lessons for My Daughters. Driven by her own challenging childhood and her experiences in the New York City educational system—as both a student and an educator—she created a girls’ empowerment program centered on confidence, self-respect, and purposeful growth.

In this conversation, Carmin shares why gratitude sits at the heart of her work, how the love of her nonna helped her persevere, and why girls need people who remind them of their magic, power, and wisdom.

01

What does being grateful mean to you?

To me, being grateful means living from your heart, being present, and seeing the beauty in what is.

ā€œBeing grateful means living from your heart, being present, and seeing the beauty in what is.ā€

02

Right now, in this moment, what are three things you are grateful for?

My life.
My daughters.
My strength and resilience.

03

Who is the first person who comes to mind when you hear, ā€œSomeone in my life that I’m grateful for, and why?ā€

My nonna, because her love is what helped me persevere, and her love is the reason I’ve kept going.

04

What is your morning routine like?

Feeling grateful for the day. Green juice. Yoga.

Two girls sharing a message that says you are beautiful—pass it on

05

What inspired you to create Lessons for My Daughters?

Working in New York City schools for many years had me feeling like something was missing in education: the humanistic side and connecting with students at the heart level. I felt that kids—especially girls—needed someone who could not only relate to them, but also remind them of their magic, power, and wisdom.
